Optimal Power Allocation for Mimo Cognitive Network Using Water Filling Algorithm

In this paper, the concept of MIMO is integrated with the existing cognitive radio network to enhance the communication utility of the secondary user. Water filling algorithm based power control is proposed to improve the transmission capacity of the cognitive system without degrading the primary users quality of service. Considering the interference constraint of the primary user, an optimal water level is first estimated and then the optimum transmission power for each subcarrier is set. In this paper we have compared the transmission utility of the secondary user with and without the power control scheme. Simulation results show that the transmission capacity is enhanced with water filling algorithm based power control and is further improved by having a cognitive radio equipped with multiple antennas for transmission and reception.
